How to Calculate Your Life Path Number

The calculation is simpler than it looks. You reduce your full date of birth to a single digit (or a master number) by adding each component separately. Here's how it works.

1

Separate your birth date into DD / MM / YYYY

Write out your full date of birth as three separate components: the day, the month, and the year. For example: born 15 March 1990 = Day: 15 | Month: 03 | Year: 1990.

2

Reduce each component to a single digit

Add the digits of each component until you reach a single digit or a master number (11 or 22).

Day: 15 → 1+5 = 6
Month: 033
Year: 1990 → 1+9+9+0 = 19 → 1+9 = 10 → 1+0 = 1
3

Add the three results together - then reduce again

Add your three reduced numbers. If the result is a two-digit number that isn't a master number, reduce again to reach a single digit.

6 + 3 + 1 = 10 → 1+0 = Life Path 1

Stop at 11, 22, or 33 - these are master numbers

Master number 11, master number 22, and master number 33 are never reduced further. If your final total reaches 11, 22, or 33 at any stage of the addition, keep it. These are special vibrations in numerology that carry amplified energy and responsibility.

Three Worked Examples

Example 1

July 4, 1985

Month: 7

Day: 4

Year: 1+9+8+5 = 23 → 2+3 = 5

Total: 7+4+5 = 16 → 1+6 = 7

Life Path 7 - The Seeker

Example 2

November 29, 1992

Month: 1+1 = 2

Day: 2+9 = 11 → 2

Year: 1+9+9+2 = 21 → 2+1 = 3

Total: 2+2+3 = 7

Life Path 7 - The Seeker

Example 3 - Master Number

February 9, 1975

Month: 2

Day: 9

Year: 1+9+7+5 = 22 → 22 (keep)

Total: 2+9+4 = 15 → 1+5 = 6

Life Path 6 - The Nurturer

Note: in Example 3, the year reduces to 22, a master number, but when added to the other components in the final step, it's treated as 4 (its reduced form). Only the final total gets the master number treatment.

The Master Numbers: 11, 22, and 33

When your final calculation produces 11, 22, or 33, you stop. These are master numbers. They're never reduced further. Each one carries a heightened vibration and a more demanding life purpose than any standard single digit.

11

The Intuitive

The most intuitive of all life paths. If you're an 11, you probably already sense that something's different about you. Most numerologists treat it as its own vibration - not simply a 2.

22

The Master Builder

The most powerful of the master numbers. Life path 22 combines the intuition of 11 with the practicality of 4. The rare ability to turn large-scale vision into reality.

33

The Master Teacher

The rarest of the master numbers. Life path 33 is associated with selfless service, compassion, and teaching. A genuine 33 in the final total is uncommon. Confirm the calculation twice before taking it as your number.

The key rule: master numbers only apply to the final total, not intermediate steps. If your day or year reduces to 11 or 22 mid-calculation, you use the reduced form (2 or 4) when adding to the other components. Only when the grand total itself is 11, 22, or 33 do you keep it as a master number.

Common questions

What if 11 or 22 appears in the middle of my calculation - do I keep it?
No. The master number rule only applies to the final total. If your day or year reduces to 11 or 22 as an intermediate step, use the reduced form (2 or 4) when adding everything together. Only if the grand total of month + day + year equals 11, 22, or 33 do you stop and keep it as your life path number.
Is life path 11 really a 2?
Technically, 11 and 2 share the same base. But most numerologists treat 11 as its own distinct vibration - not a 2 with extra steps. The 11 carries a deeper spiritual calling and a heavier emotional weight than a standard 2. If you calculate to 11, read both - the 11 energy, and the 2 qualities beneath it.
Why does my number differ from another site?
Usually because of how master numbers are handled mid-calculation. Some systems keep 11 and 22 as master numbers throughout every step; others reduce them in the intermediate steps and only preserve them in the final total. This site uses the standard modern method: reduce mid-steps, preserve master numbers only in the final total.
Which life path number is considered the most powerful?
Birth dates that land on a master number (11, 22, or 33) are considered the most intensely charged, carrying amplified energy and a more demanding life purpose. Among single digits, life path 8 is most associated with worldly power and material achievement. Most numerologists give 22 the top spot overall: the Master Builder combines vision with the rare ability to actually build the thing.
How do I calculate life path 33?
To get a final total of 33, your reduced month, day, and year digits must add to exactly 33. Genuine life path 33 birth dates are uncommon. If your calculation produces 33, confirm it twice using the step-by-step method before taking it as your number.
